UPDATE: 9/30/08 RYBA FIELD NAMING UPDATE

Chuck Slate is will be addressing the RYBA board on Wednesday to make a formal request that field 12 be named in Jeff's honor. Field 12 is where Jeff won is championship game and the last game of the season. His team were the ones to tell Jeff not to fear and from that DNF was coined.

For those of you who support what Chuck is trying to do, please place a comment of support on this post. I talked to Chuck on Saturday and told him that a lot of us won't be able to make it Wednesday, but would like for him to be able to have our comments to show the support that is behind this request. Include your name and email address, please. He will be printing the comments out and taking them with him on Wednesday.
UPDATE: This is looking good, but I need more comments from those who support this proposal! Thanks for the comments that have already been posted. I have other news to post this week, but want this at the forefront right now!

alimike@comcast.net. I am 100% behind the field being named after coach Blount. He is what baseball is all about. He always had so many nice things to say to all of the kids, even when we were playing his team. He deserves this, and it would be such a nice reminder of his presence.Alisa Begitschke

I think it is a fantastic idea to name a field in Jeff's memory. He influenced our community so much during his life and his ideals and passion should stay strong in our community! Lesliehowell@gmail.com

I fully support the notion of naming a field after coach blount. He had such a profound impact on so many kids that came out to those fields. This is a great way to remember him.

cherie.bates@comcast.net is 100 % behind this. Coach Blount was my son's first coach and he was great. We loved being on his team. He wad dedicated to the kids and to RYBA!

There is not a RYBA person that I know who did not admire Jeff for everything he put into his athletes and the program. He was my son's first baseball coach and set the bar exceedingly high for all the coaches there after. I would love to see a field named after him as would my family and certainly my son!

Coach Blount was a wonderful coach to every child that was lucky enough to have been on one of his teams. There should definatly be a field named after him, even that does not seem to be enough to honor the memory of someone as wonderful as him.

Coach Blount was my nephews first baseball coach. He was wonderful!! He loved all of the players, and made most of them the ball players they are today!! We support naming a field after him 100%. Some of my favorite memories of my nephew playing ball include Coach Blount on the field with him.

I think it would be a wonderful idea to name a field after Jeff. I would be very fitting for a man who spent his life on the playing fields of Rockdale County as a player and coach!!!!!!!

"I Support Coach Blount"
What a simple saying to put on the back of the t-shirt when he can be summed up with many different words
"I Support: A Pilar in the community, A caring husband, A model father, A man that made a true impact, A man that will never be replaced." I Support Coach Blount

Isn't this a no brainer! Of course a field in this community should be named after such a legend. We have named roads, bridges, stadiums, etc. after people who did not even come close to being the person that Jeff Blount was.
DUUHHHHH as the kids would say!

Naming a field in Jeff's honor is a fitting tribute to an incredible man!!! If anyone deserves this honor, it is Jeff. It would mean a lot to the community in which he has made a huge impact on for many, many years, and still does through his lessons taught, wisdom imparted and memories of a great man. Lets keep supporting Jeff.

Jeff has left a legacy within all of us. We need to do something to fulfill our end of the legacy. In order to keep him involved in his legacy I think a field named for him is only fitting.

Thanks for bringing this before the board.

The Earl O'Neal complex is named after the great Rockdale County coach of my childhood. No one ever call Mr. O'Neal anything but "Coach." Jeff was that man for this generation. He was "Coach" on the field, "Coach" in the classroom and "Coach" in the community for so many kids who's lives were positively impacted by him. Naming a field in his memory is more than appropriate.

Jeff Blount is one of the, if not the most well known people in Rockdale County. If you don't know Jeff,..... you're really not from Rockdale County. Jeff gave so much to this county and spent countless hours at RYBA over the years. Jeff was part of RYBA for nearly 40 years. I can't think of a more deserving person to name a field after.

I have not been privy to Jeff's work at RYBA, but I know what a fantastic teacher, coach, and mentor he has been to many students at Salem and Rockdale. I would fully support naming a field after him. He and his family deserve this wonderful honor.

Jeff was a great person who loved sports of all kind, this would be a great way for his children to remember what a great fan, coach, and person then to have his name on one of the many fields he played on and at.

I've known Jeff for almost 30 years and cannot think of anyone more deserving of the honor of having a sports field named after them. Jeff truly was a coach and teacher his entire life. He coached so many children in sports, but he coached us all on character. He made such an amazing impact on so many young people and will for many more years to come. I am sure that when Jeff looks down and sees these children for years to come on this field with his name on it, he will be humbled and proud. This would be a wonderful way to honor him and his family.

Naming a field after Jeff is common sense. I know that the county has many wonderful coaches who have touched hundreds of lives like Jeff did, but right now we have the opportunity to memorialize everything that Jeff stood for and taught his "kids". He was one of a kind and should have this tribute given to him as a permanent part of RYBA.

I went to high school with Jeff. What an awesome guy and a great human being. He ended up coaching duriny my daughter's tenure atRCHSm I can't think of a more fitting honor than to have a field named after Jeff as a constant reminder to the legacy that he leaves our children.

Ditto from Darlene Evans.

"Isn't this a no brainer! Of course a field in this community should be named after such a legend."

After the baseball field is name after Jeff, the Salem Football Stadium should be named after Jeff. Football was his passion out of all sports.

I did not know Jeff Blount personally, but just from hearing from all the people who lives he touched is so amazing. He had a tremendous impact on everyone he came in contact with. He definitely deserves for his work he has done to be honored. By naming the field after him would show great appreciation for all he has done for our youth who are the future of tomorrow.

Having known Jeff Blount both personally and as a Coach, the greatest honor that could be bestowed upon his memory would be to name the Field where he "FINALLY won a championship" as he would say. He called himself the Bobby Cox of RYBA. It was such an honor for him to win that Championship especially during a time where he was undergoing the toughest battle he has ever fought. My understanding is that the issue of naming the fields at RYBA has come up in the past however, I cannot think of a more deserving, honored, or respected person. Please give careful consideration to this request to honor such a wonderful husband, father, coach, and friend.

Jeff Blount has been such a major influence not only in my son's life but in the lives of our entire family! What drive and determination Jeff had for everything in his life. He was a wonderful Coach and I would like nothing more than for his legacy to continue. I would love to see a field named after Jeff!!!

I fully support naming a field in honor of Coach Jeff Blount's Memory. He touched many lives and was such a positive influence, it would be a great reminder of the impact he had on everyone. Thanks, Kimberly Holbrook kimberlysunrise@yahoo.com

What a wonderful tribute, and my family will support this all the way. Not only was Jeff a positive and uplifting person that did a lot for the Rockdale community he was well known, loved and respected by all who knew him. We think this would show how much Rockdale valued him for what he did. I don't think Rockdale County will ever see anyone that can come near to replacing Jeff.
