The board will be asked to allow the press box to be lettered with the statement 'Welcome to Jeff Blount Memorial Field'.
This sign and brick facade is dated and as part of the request, the board will be asked to allow the sign to read 'Jeff Blount Memorial Field at Robert J. Reid Memorial Stadium' and the brick to be covered in a more modern facade.]
WHAT WE NEED: We need evidence of support from the community in the form of a letter of support or your presence at the January Board Meeting. The Board meeting will be on Thursday January 15th at 7pm. Obviously, writing a letter will be the least painful, but just as effective.
The letters should address the Rockdale County Board of Education. They should include a statement that you are in support of the field at Robert Reid Stadium being named after Jeff Blount. Please also include your affiliation with Rockdale County - i.e parent of student, former student, resident etc... I will post a sample letter (soon) for those who would rather cut, paste, sign and send.
The letters can be mailed or emailed to Dean Hayes at 1573 Hwy 213, Covington, GA 30014/ hayesholly@bellsouth.net.

my video "Rest In Peace Our Fallen Warrior" was made in memory of Coach. i couldnt believe that he was gone. I figured since no one else made him a vid. that I would make one.
I know everyone wears his shirt. I deffinitley do and have a pic of me on the counter at Salem High School wearing it...it was funny.
I'll always miss Coach and still the games havent felt the same without him there.='/ I think that BOTH Salem and Rockdale Stadiums should be named after Coach Blount. I mean "Seminole Stadium" seriously?? that's not right. it should be named after the man that took a HUGE affect on Salem High School.he was the best Coach anyone could have asked for. So I think BOTH Stadiums should have his name because of all the things he did with, in, and for Salem High School and Rockdale High School. That's my honest opinion on that subject.
Rest In Peace Our Fallen Warrior.
We Caught You So Many Times...
But This Time It Was Time For You To Go On and be able to look down on us. We'll always remember you.
When people say 'he was just a Coach' they are wrong on so many levels...just a coach is only the start..he was son, father, husband, cousin, friend, inspirationist, teach....just a coach isnt even the begining. When one man can come in and turn many peoples lives around..he is not just some man..he is a man..a wonderful person who's love turned around many people. One who died surrounded by the people he loved...and the ones that loved him back...he died knowing that he had an entire school that would know his name. That many people who will come into Salem High School that will learn his name and hear his story. "I can't wait until January when I can tell about my relief story" what people don't realize is that when he passed..many people heard his relief story. he was no longer in pain...he was no longer wondering what day would be his last..
He was pain free and watching us..he watched his team and marching band that night. Coach taught me a lot in the time that I knew him. He taught me that even when things dont go well, you just have to stand up, shake it off, smile, and move on.
Coach Blount,
It's been a few months since you left us. I couldnt believe that you were really gone but you were. It was reality and it hurt. I guess that reality will hurt sometimes. You just have to know that that person will always be with you.. I know you will always be with us. I'll always miss you. When people say your name I just laugh...because I remember the smile on your face at every game..i remember you for the man that inspired me the most. I remember how much you meant to me...I remember the day you died we were eating(dinner) in the cafe. at Salem before the game. They had a banner for anyone to sign for you..I signed it. Melany was with me and I hugged her and cried. Alex was crying and I cried with her. Mellissa was there and it took her minute to sign it. But in the we all signed it. I felt like signing it that night put my mark to you. I will always remember the man who showed me what its like to just live..without fear..or worrying about everything every second of the day. Coach Blount..I just want to you to know that I'll always love and miss you. "Do Not Fear" -Coach Jeff Blount.
God saw that he was getting tired
And a cure was not to be
So He put His arms around him
And whispered, Come with Me
With tearful eyes, in silence,
We saw him fade away.
Although we loved him dearly,
We could not make him stay.
A Golden Heart stopped Beating;
Hard Working Hands laid to Rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.
When his hands laid to rest..when his golden heart stopped beating..time paused and there was a moment of silence. There was no sound to be heard..in silence we cried..the tears ran down our faces as we remembered Coach Blount and all the he was. September saw a month of tears and hearts were hurting..we will remember him.
